(měi rén jì)
The Beauty Trap (Honey Trap)
When Liu Bang was under a siege led by Modu Chanyu (冒顿单于, 234-174 B.C.) in Baideng, his advisor Chen Ping (陈平, died 178 B.C.) had a painting of a beautiful concubine sent to Modu's wife, along with a note saying that the emperor was going to surrender, and offer the concubine to the Modu. Modu's wife, mad with jealousy and fear, persuaded her husband to lift the siege and return home [18].
The Beauty Trap (Honey Trap) is also associated with the 53rd hexagram, Wind over Mountain. According to [], the yang line in the third position from the bottom, surrounded by yin lines, can be interpreted as a husband surrounded by women. These relationships must be proper in order for the husband to move ahead, for if the desires or weaknesses of the husband are known, it exposes him to manipulation by the yin lines [1], [28].
